1.Avoid curling your body around the guitar when playing seated. Sit in a chair with a straight back (preferably one without arms) and try to sit up straight. You’ll thank yourself later for trying to keep your back straight.
2.Avoid making sharp wrist bends with your fretting hand. At the wrist, try to keep your hand in line with your arm. When you bend your wrist, you put tension on the tendons that run through it, which can lead to injury. Instead of bending your wrist, bend your fingers.
3. Fret a string close to the fret, just behind it, when fretting it. This will result in a clear note and a clean tone. The notes will not be clear if you hold the string between the frets, and you will have to press too hard.
4. With your fretting fingers, don’t press down too hard. Only press as hard as necessary to obtain a clear note (no buzzing). It’s probably not as difficult as you believe.
5. The tips of your fretting fingers get a lot of use when you’re playing guitar. They’re going to hurt. Relax and take it easy on yourself. Over time, callouses will form on your hands. You should not play until you have bled. This will only prevent you from playing until your wounds have healed.
